Walnut Bench
Book Stool
Walnut Bookshelf
I specialize in custom-made and commissioned, hand-crafted furniture for consumers and commercial customers.
I design and make every piece of furniture. Most pieces are made-to-order. I do not stock inventory.
I have made sideboards, built-ins, focal points, large bookshelves, entertainment centers, dinning sets, coffee tables, benches, chairs and other furniture.
I use traditional, tried and true construction techniques such as mortise and tenon and dovetail joinery. These joints have been used for thousands of years and they work. I specialize in solid wood construction.
From time to time and depending upon my work load, I can help you with historical trim restoration, whether your home is historical or not. I also take on a very limited amount of furniture repair, but sparingly.
What I Don’t Do
I do not do any of the following:
- General remodeling or tilework
- Carpentry (as opposed to woodworking)
- Cabinet refinishing, but I can refer you
- Upholstery (I am looking for an upholstery partner)
- Wood-floor finishing
- Reproductions from photos
My Expectations
My ideal client is someone who can provide basic directions on style and function and then gives me the freedom to design within those constraints.
A simple sketch or picture or even just a description of the design you have in mind is usually all that is needed to work from.
I prefer some design direction because without constraints, we’ll waste a lot of time and your money while I guess what you want.
I like working with interior designers.
What You Can Expect
Expect the entire process from initial conversation to finished piece to take 4 to 6 months, depending upon scale of your project. Typically, with my work-already-in-progress, it may take a month or two before I can start your project.
Shipping costs are not included in the fee; they are extra.
Refinishing projects are typically never below $500.
Smaller furniture prices start around $400, at the very least.
Commercial Work
I am open to commercial work, and have worked with hotels, restaurants and funeral homes.
I can handle small-scale production runs of 10 to 50 pieces, maximum.
Your budget sets the quality level.
Fine Points or Brass Tacks
I typically charge 50 to 60 percent upfront to begin your project.
The remaining payment is due some 6 to 8 weeks later, paid at completion.
